New Orleans. Aerial infrared mosaic image of New Orleans in Louisiana, USA. North is at top. In the infrared range, green vegetation appears red, buildings are blue/grey, and water is blue/black. New Orleans (at centre) lies on the Mississippi River, which flows from far left to bottom right. To the city's north is Lake Pontchartrain, a shallow brackish lake which is crossed by the Pontchartrain Causeway bridge (at upper left). Lake Salvador is at bottom left, and swamps lie to the east of the city. New Orleans is a major centre for transport, commerce and tourism.
